Photobombing Elephant Seal of the Day: An elephant seal photobombs a King Penguin photoshoots at Saint Andrews Bay, South Georgia.

“I was about to take a picture of the penguins when suddenly from the other side of the dune appeared a young elephant seal,” says French photographer Michel Watson. “It stood for about six seconds just staring at us before going back down and disappearing. A few seconds later he was standing again and he did this at least 15 times. The whole thing was very bizarre and lasted a good five minutes.”

Beetles Die During Sex With Beer Bottles

It’s a case of mistaken attraction, because the beer bottles happen to possess all of the features that drive male Australian jewel beetles wild. They’re big and orangey brown in color, with a slightly dimpled surface near the bottom (designed to prevent the bottle from slipping out of one’s grasp) that reflects light in much the same way as female wing covers.
